Alberta Wind Energy Corporation.
Alberta Wind Energy Corporation (AWEC) is a private company formed in 2003 to develop wind farm projects principally in southwestern Alberta, centralized in the Pincher Creek area. The area in which the wind farms are being constructed is commonly recognized as one of the best operating areas for wind projects, with sites boasting high capacity utilization. Initial wind tests were commenced on February 1, 2004 and are still ongoing. Low production months are May to September, with the best production from October to the end of April. Strongest daily average wind volumes are during the period of 10 am - 10 pm. Our wind site data has been correlated with that collected by Environment Canada from the monitoring station at the Pincher Creek Airport approximately 20 km from the facility.
AWEC is currently focused on developing three sites, Phase I (50.4 MW) Old Man River Wind Energy Project. Phase II (90-100MW) Windy Point Energy Project. Phase III Waterton Hutterite Colony Project. AWEC is taking a staged approach to power generation and shareholder value creation.
