About Us

Alberta Wind Energy Corporation (AWEC) was formed in 2003 to develop independent wind farm projects. Thus far, the Company has focused its efforts principally in the Pincher Creek area of southern Alberta, Canada.

The area in which the wind farms are being constructed is commonly recognized as one of the best operating areas for wind projects in the country, with sites boasting higher capacity utilization factors than many other projects in Canada. Some of the existing wind farms in the area include:

  • Cowley Ridge (Canadian Hydro Developers Inc.): 38 MW
  • Castle River (TransAlta Wind): 40 MW
  • McBride Lake (TransAlta Wind, ENMAX Green Power Inc.): 75 MW
  • Summerview (TransAlta Wind): 68 MW
  • Kettles Hill ( Enmax Green Power Inc): 63 MW

The Company is currently focused on developing four sites, taking a staged approach to power generation and shareholder value creation. In addition, the Company currently owns and operates two wind power turbines, with a capacity of 3.6 MW.

To date, AWEC has raised privately approximately $15,000,000 of equity and convertible debentures and currently has ~6,200,000 fully diluted shares outstanding.

In March 2009, AWEC signed a partnership agreement with Luxembourg Mainstream Renewable Power S.A.R.L, a subsidiary of Mainstream Renewable Power Company of Ireland, for the development of the Oldman 2, Windy Point, Waterton and Cardston projects. AWEC and Mainstream may also endeavor to co-develop future opportunities in the Province of Alberta.

The AWEC team continues efforts to lease additional locations for future developments.

Alberta Wind Energy is an active member of the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CANWEA).
